How many square feet per guest do I need for a tent?
It depends on the seating style. Plan on about 6 square feet per guest for ceremony seating or standing events, 8 square feet for standing cocktail events with high-top tables, 12 square feet per guest for seated dinners at rectangular banquet tables, and 15 square feet per guest for seated dinners at round tables.
How do I calculate what size tent I need?
Start with your guest count multiplied by the square footage per guest for your seating style, then add space for extras such as a buffet line, bar, cocktail tables, dance floor, stage, and any accessory tables like a cake or DJ table. Add roughly 10% on top for walkways and tent poles, then match the total to the nearest standard tent size.
How much space does a dance floor add to a tent?
Dance floor space depends on how many couples will be dancing at once, ranging from about 81 square feet (a 9′ x 9′ floor for roughly 8 couples) up to 693 square feet (a 21′ x 33′ floor for roughly 69 couples).
Does a buffet or bar need extra tent space?
Yes. A buffet line adds about 44 square feet per station, and a bar adds about 36 square feet per station, in addition to the seating space for your guests. Larger events typically need one buffet or bar station for roughly every 100 guests.
